Founded in 2001 by the non-profit organization Health Care Without Harm, the conference has served as a clearing house for cutting-edge practices related to designing and building greener hospitals, creating healthier food systems and promoting preventive medicine. 350 participants from 34 countries and 22 exhibitors took part in this conference. Also a delegation of the three partners of Eco4Life Project (BioCon Valley GmbH, Greifswald, Germany; Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin, Poland and Klaipeda Univeristy, Klaipeda, Lithuania) participated in this conference, performing an exhibition about the Eco4Life Project.
